| FASHION SHOW TIME |
[Jun. 27th, 2009|08:24 pm] |
The Otakon lolita fashion show is on Saturday at 10am.
What does this mean for us? It means that every model must be dressed, made-up (hair and makeup mostly done or completely done, with room for fine-tuning by the designers), and in the Panel Ops room by no later than 8:30 to sign their model release forms. I know it's not the usual thing to let people see the outfits before the show, but this nonsense is way too early for us to care about that. If your hotel is too far to go back and change post-show, then bring a shopping bag with your other outfit or something, and the designers will take back their garments from you unless otherwise specified.
The panel room opens to us at 9am, so once you've signed your form, go directly to the Hilton (we'll find out Thursday what room we're in) and wait outside the panel room. NO LOLLYGAGGING or I will punch you in the throat, I swear.

Before I go into this, let me just say that I am pleased at how many model applications I've received thus far. We're almost to our minimum requirement in a very short amount of time! And if you applied and I didn't reply (I didn't reply to anyone but Mary's), don't think I didn't see your application. I have seen each and every one of those suckers, and I'm pleased so far with what I've found.
NOW THEN.
I need assistants, and no particular amount except a lot. There's a few things I need from assistants:
Assistants in the dressing room • You MUST be female, no exceptions. • You must be able to pin properly, as in making the pin invisible or mostly invisible without drawing blood; I will supply a box of dressmaker's pins. (EXAMPLE: DON'T JUST PIN THE FABRIC TOGETHER WITH A BIG WAD OF FABRIC STICKING OUT. AND DON'T STICK IT INTO FLESH.) • You must not be prudish about seeing half-naked people, or touching other people. If a model is not immediately responding to your request to turn around so you can adjust her waist tie bow, as long as it doesn't endanger her or the garment, you have the right to grab her by the waist and spin her around. • If you see giant wads of clothing getting mixed together, do your best to separate it. When a model steps out of/flings aside her first garment, don't let it lie around if you're not already attending to the model! Grab it and put it aside where it won't be in any danger. • You must ALSO listen to the stage manager! She is your second boss, and you must help her if there is model mutiny.
Assistants outside the dressing room • You may be any gender you please! • You must be quick to listen and possibly swift of foot! Some wayward designer or model may have left something in another room, or even in another building, and it might be up to you (this happened last year, seriously) to sprint there and back and retrieve the item. • If a model asks you a question, direct them to me or David, unless it's an obvious question you can answer yourself.
Assistants in general • Do NOT flake out on me! If you volunteer to help, don't disappear. At the very least, give me a call or text, but try to make the show a priority. • PLEASE remember your duties! A lot of time will be lost in explanation to each person if you don't. Remember your instructions and you will be the grease that keeps the machinery of the show going.
Assistant Application Name: Age: E-mail address: Any extra skills?: [handsewing, makeup, hairstyling, etc] Proof you exist: [A single headshot so I can recognize you]
I insist on the application for assistanthood simply because allowing every Tom, Dick and Sally to come and volunteer without some sort of screening process could also let in shady characters and predators that might endanger the models; it's a safety measure.
COMMENTS ARE SCREENED!

| MODEL APPLICATIONS: CLOSED AS OF 2/24 |
[Feb. 19th, 2009|07:45 am] |
Comments are screened!
Model applications are closed! Deliberation and such is now occurring.
Model Application Name: Age: [Minors, please keep in mind your parents have to sign a waiver] Bust: Waist: Hips: Height: Shoe size: Email: [TWO (2) or more pictures of your face and full body, please!]
Model guidelines and requirements • KEEP IN CONTACT WITH YOUR DESIGNER! If a designer comes to me and tells me you haven't been returning messages or have otherwise fallen off the face of the earth, a backup model will be brought in.
• All 14+ models must be able to walk in (and must wear) at least a 2" heel. If you do not have heels, buy or order them asap once you have been assigned to your designers! Speak with your two designers to coordinate shoe styles and colors; if your designers can agree to one shoe, life will be easier for all involved. Why heels, you might ask? For one, it makes the walker and the clothes look better, which is what a fashion show is all about. Secondly, it will shorten your stride a bit, which will slow your walk without you having to concentrate on it, and the audience will get a better look at the garment.
• Embody a runway model in your mind! Keep it natural, but you should not look like you're walking the dog. Envision yourself sashaying across the stage and you'll be halfway there.
• Keep a neutral face while walking the floor, but on the stage please make facial expressions (and poses) as dictated by the designer of the garment you're currently modeling. For example, your first designer may want you to pigeon-toe and smile and twirl a parasol onstage, while your second designer may want you to turn your back on the audience and look over your shoulder with a pouty bitch look, or something. Your designers should discuss this with you.
• You may NOT go makeupless! You will be photographed often if not constantly, and a matte face and defined eyes are a must, if nothing else. Each designer will assign a cohesive makeup look to her particular group of models; if your other designer is going in a radically different direction, please discuss this with both of them, so that your makeup can work with both looks! Also, please cooperate with the designers; you are modeling their clothes, and so they will dictate your look. (If your designer wants you in a smoky eye and pale lip, that's what you'll wear, for example.) What you do after the show, obviously, is nobody's business but your own.
• Your hair must be styled! We will be meeting, barring any weird scheduling issues, several hours prior to the show to get everybody styled and any other finalizations; if you need help with your hair, this is the time to get it!
• REMEMBER! You are representing the DESIGNER, not yourself! Your actions reflect more on them and the people running the show than they do on you.
• LISTEN TO THE STAGE MANAGER. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH.
• And above all, don't stress! If you have any questions, I'm more than happy to answer them, and I will be getting as many backstage assistants as possible this year to help you all. Hopefully I can also wrangle a bigger dressing area this year, too.
I hope you liked my abuse of html and caps, lol. Go forth and apply, and remember, comments are screened!

In my last neighborhood of Schnectady—not to be confused with Schenectady, NY, and an assimilated former Strangetown—there was once a "weirdo" family, moreso than the Schnectadiennes, and that was Maddie Janovski (iliketoplaygod's Jasmyne Blue) and her brother Octave, raising her kids (and later on, one of his) in a big and somewhat misshapen house. I miss them terribly, so I redecorated their entire lumpen house prior to their arrival into my current neighborhood of Troy.
tl;dr I decorated a house.

( Lumpen and misshapen, indeed... )
And now to the Coffin thread! *flies off*
